Common Dishwasher Issues We Fix

Dishwasher not starting
If the control lights are on but nothing happens, the culprit may be a door latch microswitch, blown thermal fuse, or a user interface (touchpad) lock that’s engaged. On models that are completely dead, we check line voltage at the junction box, verify control board power output, and inspect the selector keypad ribbon for corrosion.
We also test the float switch; if it’s stuck “full,” the unit won’t fill or start.

Water not draining
Standing water usually traces back to a clogged filter, blocked check valve, or debris in the drain pump impeller. We clear the sump, confirm the drain hose high loop (or air gap) is correct, and run the pump in service mode to verify current draw. If the pump hums but won’t move water, the motor windings may be failing or the impeller is seized.
We also look for disposal knockout plugs left in after a new sink install—surprisingly common.

Leaking water
Leaks can appear as a slow toe-kick drip or a full side-gasket weep. We inspect the door gasket, tub corner channels, and lower spray arm for splits that throw water at the door seam. Bottom leaks often point to a circulation pump seal, diverter shaft O-ring, or a cracked drain hose at the clamp.
We run a clear-door test plate or mirror to watch spray patterns and confirm the fix before closing up.

Making unusual noises
Grinding or rattling is often foreign debris in the chopper or a worn circulation pump bearing. High-pitched whine suggests a dry pump or cavitation from restricted inlet flow. Thumping can come from a warped lower spray arm clipping racks.
We remove the sump cover, clear obstructions, true the spray arms, and replace motors or bearings when they’re past saving.
Common Dishwasher Parts We Fix

Control board
Symptoms: random resets, no heat in dry, or cycles that stall at the same time mark. We check for burnt relay pads, test heater and pump outputs, apply firmware updates where applicable, and replace the board if relays or logic are compromised. Post-repair, we run the GE service diagnostic to clear fault history.

Touchpad / control panel
If buttons don’t respond or only some selections work, the UI membrane or ribbon cable may be oxidized. We test key matrix continuity, clean contacts, reseat harnesses, and replace the panel if the fault returns. After install, we calibrate and verify child-lock and cycle selection.

Circulation pump
Low wash pressure equals poor cleaning. We measure amps under load, listen for bearing howl, and inspect for leaks at the pump seal. If windings are out of spec or the impeller is worn, we install a new assembly, reseal the sump, and confirm robust spray on all arms during a glassware test.

Drain pump
A healthy GE drain pump purges the sump in seconds. We power the pump directly to confirm operation, check for impeller wobble, and look for voltage at the harness during drain. If the motor spins but flow is weak, we verify hose and check-valve obstructions before replacing the pump.
