Common Washer Issues We Fix

Washer is not spinning
A no-spin complaint can stem from a worn drive belt, a faulty lid/door lock, a failed motor control, or even a clogged pressure hose falsely telling the board the tub is still full. We verify basket spin by testing motor windings, inspecting the belt/tensioner, and running diagnostic spin cycles. On HE units, we also check the tachometer sensor and recalibrate the control if out of range.

Washer is not draining properly
Slow or standing water usually traces to a blocked drain trap, jammed impeller, or a failed drain pump. In NYC apartments, coins, hairpins, and fabric lint are frequent culprits. We remove the front or rear service panel, clear the filter, bench-test the pump for amperage draw, and snake the drain hose to rule out kinks or building-side backflow.

Water leaking from the washer
Leaks can appear at the door boot, tub-to-pump hose, inlet valve, or dispenser housing. We perform a dry inspection for tear lines and clamp fatigue, then a pressurized fill test. For front-loaders, we also check for bearing play; a wobbly inner basket slings water past the boot even when the boot looks fine.

Error codes displayed on the control panel
Modern washers log codes for unbalanced loads (Ub/UE), drain faults (F21/E2), door lock errors (DL/DE), and more. We retrieve the stored history, test associated sensors (pressure switch, NTC thermistor, RPM sensor), and update firmware when supported. Clearing codes without addressing the root cause is a short-term fix—we make the error stop coming back.
Common Washer Parts We Fix

Drive belt
Symptoms: drum won’t turn, weak or squealing spin.
Service: verify pulley alignment and idler condition, replace with the correct rib count/length, and set belt tension to spec to prevent premature wear.

Control board
Symptoms: random shutdowns, dead display, or cycles that skip steps.
Service: inspect for heat-stressed solder joints, test relay output, confirm proper voltage from the line filter, and replace or repair the board. We also reseat harnesses and update software where supported.

Drain pump
Symptoms: humming but not moving water, intermittent drains, or error codes after 8–10 minutes of pump time-out.
Service: remove debris, test impeller free-spin and resistance, verify 120V supply during drain call, and replace the pump assembly if the windings are out of spec.

Water inlet valve
Symptoms: slow fill, hot/cold reversed, or water seeping into the tub when off.
Service: check screen filters, measure solenoid resistance, inspect for scale buildup common in older NYC buildings, and replace with a matched flow-rate valve. We also run a final leak test at working pressure.
